Two hours of driving on real roads with an instructor. Covers the basics, turns, intersections, lane changes and parking, building toward your DMV test. For teens, each lesson counts toward the 6 hours of training California requires.

A short warm-up and your DMV test, in the school's car. Practice near the DMV right before the test. Your instructor goes with you to the DMV and takes you back afterwards.

Six hours of driving in one day, for adults short on time. City streets, freeway, parking and the DMV test maneuvers, with breaks along the way. For drivers 18 and over: California limits teens in training to 2 hours a day.

One hour on a single skill: parking, turns or lane changes. Good for a refresher, a nervous driver getting back on the road, or a quick check before the DMV test.

90 minutes of driving: warm up first, then real practice. Longer than a one-hour lesson without the fatigue of two. Turns, lane changes and parking in everyday traffic.

A two-hour lesson, then the DMV test in the school's car. Time for a full mock test and to drill weak spots like backing up, lane changes and right-of-way. Best if you haven't driven much lately. Your instructor goes with you to the DMV and back.

Freeway basics: on-ramps, merging, lane changes and exits. In real traffic with an instructor beside you. For new drivers, and for licensed drivers who avoid the freeway.
